Following reports that Rangers scouts were present for FC Porto's 3-0 victory over Moreirense, scout and football analyst Kai Watson suggested the club may have been observing several players ahead of the summer transfer window. Watson identified 22-year-old centre-back Gilberto Batista, who holds both Guinea-Bissau and Portuguese citizenship, as a possible target. He also named two other Moreirense players, Diogo Travassos and Afonso Assis, as individuals who could be of interest to the Light Blues. Batista joined Moreirense in July 2023 and his contract runs until June 2027. He has made 21 appearances in the Liga Portugal during the 2025/2026 season and has earned 2 caps for Guinea-Bissau. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €400k.
