According to Alan Nixon, newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers are expected to attempt to sign Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. The 24-year-old is considered available for transfer by Southampton as he enters the final year of his contract. It was also reported last week that Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb was interested in him. Bazunu, who has had unsuccessful loan spells at Standard Liege and Stoke City, lost his position as the primary goalkeeper after an Achilles injury in the 2023/24 season. The Irish international, who has 22 caps for his country, has since been excluded from matchday squads and did not play in pre-season friendlies despite travelling to Germany. Head coach Tonda Eckert has made it clear that Daniel Peretz is his first-choice goalkeeper and George Long is the back-up, which leaves Bazunu free to find a new club before the transfer deadline at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1. His current market value on Transfermarkt is €8.00m. In August 2026, reports suggested Southampton's asking price was approximately £7 million, while his original transfer from Manchester City U21 in July 2022 was for a reported fee of €14.0 million.
