Tomoki Iwata leaving Birmingham City?

2h ago

Chris Davies said Tomoki Iwata, a 29-year-old Japanese defensive midfielder, could be playing out the final season of his Birmingham City career. Iwata has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Birmingham City and talks over a new deal are not on the agenda. The expectation is that Tomoki Iwata will return to Japan at some stage in the near future. Chris Davies said that they spoke to Iwata last season, telling him that he had been fantastic and that they have a very high opinion of him, but that he has a young family. Davies stated that he thinks their future is back home in Japan. Chris Davies also said they are relaxed and open-minded, that he and Iwata are in regular contact about the matter, and that they will see how the next few months go, adding that Iwata might change his mind if things start going really well. At the start of the season, Chris Davies said he told Iwata that he was going nowhere, that he is an absolutely critical player, and that he would be a critical player this season. Davies also said he told Iwata they would speak again as the season goes on and that Iwata is happy with that. Iwata, who has been capped four times by Japan, joined Birmingham City in August 2024 and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €2.00m.
