Benfica have made initial contact regarding Groningen's 22-year-old Dutch midfielder, Stije Resink. For several months, Resink had been linked with Dutch clubs Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord, but none of those clubs made a significant move to sign him. Benfica has now approached the player and is preparing a formal proposal, with the objective of signing him ahead of the interested clubs in the Netherlands. Groningen's initial plan was to retain the player, whose contract is valid until 2028, until the summer, when a release clause of approximately six million euros becomes active. Benfica's coach, José Mourinho, has spoken directly with Resink, during which he explained the sporting project and indicated that the midfielder is a priority. Groningen is currently waiting for a potential official offer. If a transfer is to happen this winter, Benfica might have to pay an amount greater than the summer release clause to persuade Groningen to sell the player immediately. In the current Eredivisie season, Resink has played in 19 matches, scored 4 goals, and registered 5 assists. According to reports from January 2026, FC Groningen is seeking a fee of €10 million.
