Club watcher Mike Verweij predicts that Ajax faces a significant challenge in extending the contract of 17-year-old Moroccan-Dutch midfielder Abdellah Ouazane. Ouazane's current contract at Ajax runs until mid-2028. Verweij notes that Ouazane is represented by Forza, with agents who will ask for a lot of money. Verweij thinks Ajax must offer Ouazane a very good contract, and he expects that Jordi Cruijff will not go to extremes. As an example, Verweij cites Ryan Gravenberch, who received a salary of one and a half million euros per season at Ajax at age sixteen. Verweij comments that it could be a problem if an agent asks for four or five million. Verweij believes Ouazane has the intention to stay, but only if a good contract is provided. Verweij also notes that under Marc Overmars, academy players with expiring contracts who did not extend them were benched. He is unsure if Cruijff will do the same. Verweij advises that it would be good for Ouazane to play in the Netherlands for two or three more years before moving abroad. The midfielder has a current market value of €8.00m according to Transfermarkt. In the 2025/2026 season, he has made 9 appearances and scored 1 goal in the Eredivisie. Ouazane has also earned 1 cap for Morocco. Real Madrid and Juventus have been recently linked with the player.
