Marc-André ter Stegen Transfer from FC Barcelona to Tottenham Hotspur
According to Sport, Marc-André ter Stegen has decided to leave Barcelona in the next transfer window, with his primary motivation being a desire to be available for the 2026 World Cup. He has already attracted interest from three English clubs, Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester United, and a Ligue 1 club, Monaco.
Graeme Bailey said intermediaries have been given permission to seek prospective moves around Europe for Ter Stegen, and that the Premier League is a destination he would seriously consider. He is being offered on an initial loan, and Barcelona realise that is a good way to secure a permanent deal. Spurs have been made aware of the situation.
SPORT reported that Barcelona are committed to Joan García, who will soon return from a short injury absence. With no plans to reinstate Ter Stegen, the Catalans will let the player himself decide what happens, and will only entertain an exit if he wants to pursue it. The club is aware of what is said to be a significant market for the player. According to SPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have enquired. A loan with an option to buy would likely be the terms if the goalkeeper is receptive.
Tottenham Hotspur have approached Barcelona to discuss Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s situation and are considering a loan-to-buy offer. According to Catalan newspaper Sport, there is a good chance the goalkeeper will end up in the Premier League if he departs Barca. Ter Stegen would ideally like to continue at Barca, though offloading his wages would aid the club’s financial situation. He could be forced to consider offers from elsewhere if he is on the bench in the coming months.
According to 'Sport', Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs, alongside Newcastle United, Manchester United, and AS Monaco, that have inquired about German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's, 33, situation in recent weeks. FC Barcelona is not actively pushing for the goalkeeper's departure and would only consider a transfer if ter Stegen himself forces a move. Should the player seek more playing time in January, potentially to secure his national team spot for the World Cup, Barcelona would reportedly be open to negotiating a loan with a purchase option. His contract with the club runs until June 2028, and Transfermarkt currently values him at €8 million.
