Deportivo La Coruña has chosen José María Giménez to strengthen their defense in Primera. The 31-year-old Uruguayan from Atlético de Madrid did not train with his club while waiting for his departure to be finalized. Deportivo is negotiating with both the player and Atlético de Madrid to arrange a deal, which would be a loan where Atlético covers part of Giménez's salary. A firm offer has been made, but Deportivo must first create space by accelerating the departures of players such as José Angel and Dani Barcia. According to AS, Sevilla had also recently inquired about Giménez, but a deal was complicated because they would have had to contribute 80 percent of his salary. Atlético is reportedly looking to transfer the player in order to strengthen their right-back position. Giménez, who has 99 caps and 8 goals for Uruguay, joined Atlético in April 2013 and has a contract with the club until 2028. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €9.00m.
