Giovanni Simeone stated that it was true there was a possibility for him to go to River in the summer, a team he cares for a lot. He said that he could have moved and that it would have changed his football and life. Simeone added that a joint decision was made that he was needed in his team and he is very happy to have stayed.

Argentinian centre-forward Giovanni Simeone, 31, was interested in River Plate during the summer but he reconsidered a move after president Urbano Cairo, sporting director Gianluca Petrachi, and coach Ignazio Abate personally intervened. Simeone joined Torino in July 2026, and his contract is valid until June 2028. The forward has 6 caps and 1 goal for Argentina. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €7.00m. Sevilla was also linked with him during the summer.
