Middlesbrough are nearing an agreement to sign the 32-year-old English defender Sam Byram on a free transfer, following an earlier link for the player with a return to Norwich City during the summer. Byram became a free agent after his second spell at Leeds concluded, and he was on Teesside to complete the transfer. Middlesbrough's move for the defender followed a confirmation from the club's Head of Football, Kieran Scott, on BBC Tees the previous week that they were considering signing cover at full-back. According to Transfermarkt, Byram has a current market value of €400k. He has made 61 appearances in the Premier League and 220 in the Championship during his career.
