Stoke City had late interest in signing English winger Reyes Cleary from Barnsley and viewed him as a replacement for Sorba Thomas, who was sold to Hull City. According to reports, the 22-year-old had handed in a transfer request late in the window to try and secure a move. The interest in Cleary followed failed bids from Blackburn Rovers in the winter. Cleary ultimately remained with Barnsley, where he is under contract until 2028. The former England U19 international joined the club in July 2025.
