Manchester United has shown interest in acquiring Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar during the upcoming summer transfer window. The young Dutch midfielder has garnered attention from several top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool, due to his impressive performances in the Dutch Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar. Last season, he scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 43 matches. In addition, Smit was a key player for the Netherlands Under-19 team that clinched the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, where he was named Player of the Tournament. Despite the interest from major clubs, Smit indicated in an interview with Ziggo Sport that he is contemplating staying at AZ to further his development and gain more playing time. He also joked that his transfer value might be higher than the reported €25 million.
