According to the newspaper AS, Atlético de Madrid's management, led in the sports area by Mateu Alemany, is closely monitoring Johan Vásquez's performances. The club considers him a medium-term alternative and does not plan to make an offer during the next winter transfer window. In September 2025, Johan Vásquez renewed his contract with Genoa, which now runs until the summer of 2028. A potential relegation for Genoa could facilitate his exit.

According to AS, Atlético are interested in Genoa's Mexican center-back, Johan Vásquez, and the club is monitoring him. The defender is one of the players highly regarded by the sporting management for a possible addition to the back line, and Mateu Alemany is also monitoring him. Besiktas and Eintracht Frankfurt were also mentioned as possibilities, and Juventus monitored the player's situation. He has made 50 appearances for Mexico, scoring 3 goals. The defender's contract with Genoa, which he joined in January 2022, runs until June 2028. According to Transfermarkt, he has a current market value of €14.00m. In the current 2025/2026 Serie A season, Vásquez has made 4 appearances and scored 1 goal.
