Illan Meslier Transfer from Leeds United to Celtic
Sources have confirmed that reports of Celtic's interest in Illan Meslier are genuine and that they believe a deal for the goalkeeper is possible. The Scottish club is reportedly trying to sign the player on a free transfer in the January window, which is an approach Leeds is likely to reject. Meslier is currently third choice at Leeds with a small chance of playing in the first team. It is understood that Leeds is open to his departure for a nominal fee because his contract expires at the end of the season. The club aims to recover a small part of their initial investment in the player, who was previously linked with Barcelona and Chelsea. Interest in Meslier is not limited to Celtic. Reporter Fraser Fletcher stated that nine clubs are currently expressing an interest. Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to LeedsUnitednews, said he believes Meslier is a very good goalkeeper and would be an improvement for Celtic. Bailey acknowledged the player would be expensive but noted that Celtic can offer Champions League football. He also added that Leeds would prefer a sale and that other clubs are aware of the player's situation.
