According to CeltsAreHere, significant preliminary work has been done by the Hoops regarding Gvidas Gineitis, but a bid has not yet been submitted to Torino. McGowan stated that he is aware they have been attempting to acquire Gineitis, a Lithuanian midfielder for Torino who is of a large physical build. McGowan also said that they have been seeking a player of that type and are continuing to try to sign one, but they did not do so in time. Interest in Niko Sigur from Martin O’Neill’s side has apparently complicated the possibility of a deal occurring.

Celtic intend to pursue the signature of Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis if they qualify for the Champions League league phase. Italian journalist Giacomo Morandin reported that Celtic will pursue the signing if they qualify for the competition's league phase. Celtic had a €7.5m bid for Gvidas Gineitis rejected earlier this summer, and with Torino now looking for €10m, a deal may be possible. It has been suggested that Celtic are applying pressure to get a deal done, but it seems they want to secure new funds before fully pushing. For Torino, who want to raise money, the situation is not ideal, and it also leaves Celtic at some risk of another side making an offer for Gineitis.

It is claimed that Celtic are now making a strong effort to complete a deal. Torino president Urbano Cairo has conceded the club will sell some key players. The Turin chief told Gazzetta dello Sport that there is a lot of interest in their players. He said that they could not just ignore calls and have to listen, which they are doing. Cairo stated that at the moment, they have rejected all offers made to them and he has refused everyone. He added that this is what has happened so far and what he would like to continue until the end of the transfer window. Cairo also said that they still have things to do in the market, including some departures, and that the number of new players signed depends on who leaves, suggesting that three or four new players could be the correct number.
