Middlesbrough have identified Everton's Harrison Armstrong as a potential replacement should Hayden Hackney move to Everton this summer. According to journalist Alan Nixon, Armstrong may want his next professional step to be abroad, with his camp looking into possible moves in France and Germany. Nixon reported on his Patreon that while a number of other Championship clubs are interested in Armstrong, Boro are his most likely destination in the division because of his potential role in any Hackney move.

TEAMtalk reports that Middlesbrough admire Everton's English midfielder Harrison Armstrong, with the player having been discussed internally as someone Boro would welcome, potentially as part of a wider arrangement. This interest has emerged within the context of Everton's ongoing negotiations to sign Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney. Everton, however, have a very high opinion of the 19-year-old and are reportedly reluctant to let him leave permanently. According to sources close to the Merseyside club, another loan could be an option for Armstrong after a successful spell at Preston North End, but a permanent sale is not currently being considered. Armstrong's contract at Everton runs until 2028 and he has a current market value of €12.00m, according to Transfermarkt. The midfielder has 8 caps and 2 goals for the England U19 team. In the 2025/2026 season, he made 13 Premier League appearances and also played 17 games in the Championship, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
