Belgian outfit Mechelen were among the other teams interested in the giant stopper but Heerenveen boss Robin van Persie looks set to win the race for his signature as he bolsters his options at centre-back.

Gustaf Lagerbielke is reportedly set to leave Celtic on loan. The centre-half has been out of favour at Parkhead since Brendan Rodgers arrived. Mechelen in Belgium have shown interest in the player.
