According to a report from Team Talk, Aston Villa remain interested in Geny Catamo of Sporting CP and will be able to sign him for a reduced price this summer. Last summer, Catamo had opportunities to leave Sporting, with both Aston Villa and Fenerbahce making contact for him. The player's exit clause is €60 million, and it is mainly designed to prevent him from joining one of their rivals for a low price. Sporting are willing to sell the Mozambique international to other clubs in Europe for a far more reasonable price. The report states that Villa can sign Catamo if they make a €20m bid this summer. Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are also interested, and there is also interest from clubs in Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

Aston Villa showed interest in buying Geny Catamo during the transfer window, reportedly offering around €20 million for the player's economic rights. Sporting was only open to selling for €25-30 million, ideally €25M fixed plus €5M in objectives. The approaches included a salary for Catamo much higher than what he currently earns at Sporting. No deal was reached, and the player stayed at Sporting.

Aston Villa is also advancing for Geny Catamo with an offer structured as 18 million euros plus 2 million euros in bonuses. However, Sporting has indicated that they will not let Catamo go for this offer and are demanding between 25 to 30 million euros.

Aston Villa are continuing to negotiate over Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo. The 24-year-old is available for a fee of €30 million (£25.3 million, $34.3 million).
