Barry Bannan Transfer from Sheffield Wednesday to Middlesbrough
Veteran Scottish midfielder Barry Bannan was offered significantly higher wages by both Millwall and Middlesbrough when they sought a cut-price deal for him while he was out of contract at the end of the previous season. Despite the offers, Bannan chose to sign a one-year extension with Sheffield Wednesday. Interest in the 36-year-old has re-emerged. Millwall, managed by his compatriot Alex Neil, is the club most strongly connected with a potential move. Reports have also mentioned interest from Stoke City, Preston North End, and Scottish Premiership side Motherwell. Bannan joined Sheffield Wednesday in August 2015, has 27 caps for Scotland, and has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 27 Championship appearances this season. His contract expires on June 30, 2026, and his Transfermarkt market value is €200k. It is rumoured a 'nominal fee' would be required for a transfer, and Millwall reportedly made an offer in January 2026.
