Following Portsmouth's withdrawal, Blackburn Rovers are now in the primary position to complete a deal for West Brom defender Alfie Gilchrist.
Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth are both interested in signing Alfie Gilchrist, an English defender from West Brom. Sky Sports News’ Mark McAdam has reported that both Championship clubs are targeting Gilchrist for a loan in the current transfer window. West Brom signed the 22-year-old from Chelsea last summer for a fee of £1.2m, which could potentially increase to £2m, and have not disclosed their official position on the player's future. It is believed that West Brom could decide to sell if they receive an offer greater than £2m, because making a profit is important to the club. A loan move is also considered unlikely. A transfer to Blackburn could be more feasible if Ryan Alebiosu is sold, because the club currently has an adequate number of players in Gilchrist's positions. Last season in the Championship, the defender made 43 appearances and provided 2 assists. His current contract with West Brom is valid until 2030, and according to Transfermarkt, he has a market value of €3.50m.
