Scout and football analyst Kai Watson has suggested that Rangers could have been monitoring Afonso Assis before the summer transfer window. Assis is a 19-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder with a good passing range and a solid physical presence. The Portugal U20 international has a contract with Moreirense valid until June 2029 and has made 14 appearances in the 2025/2026 Liga Portugal season.
