A summer transfer to Middlesbrough for Swedish centre-back Victor Eriksson, 25, is not possible, despite the centre-back having been a player previously favored by head coach Kim Hellberg at both Varnamo and Hammarby. Early in his tenure at Boro, Hellberg did not completely dismiss the idea of another reunion, and Eriksson has previously indicated that the move would be appealing to him. However, Eriksson recently stated that to his knowledge, there had been no contact and he had not held any conversations with the club, adding that it was other people who were constantly discussing the matter. A move is prevented by new UK work visa rules which came into effect in June. Under the Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) system, Eriksson would obtain only seven points, which is less than the required 15. This low score is partly due to his number of appearances in a Band 5 league last season. The club cannot use an Elite Significant Contribution (ESC) spot, as these are limited to U23 players born since January 1, 2023. As Middlesbrough were aware of these GBE changes, Eriksson was never seriously considered as a target. The Swedish international, who has one cap for his country, joined Hammarby in July 2024 and his contract runs until December 2028. In the 2025/2026 Allsvenskan season, he has made 14 appearances and scored one goal. His current Transfermarkt market value is €3.00m.
