The Republic of Ireland international has had limited involvement with the team in Suffolk due to injuries and inconsistent form, having scored one goal in 16 Championship appearances this season. Wrexham, who are described as a club with incredible spending power, could face competition for the player, as the same report also links Stoke City, while Derby County are also attempting to sign him. Szmodics joined Ipswich in August 2024 for a reported €10.6 million and his current contract runs until June 2028. His current Transfermarkt market value is €7.00m, and Derby County reportedly had an initial bid rejected by Ipswich in January 2026, with the offer described as much lower than the club's valuation.
