Román Vega Transfer from Argentinos Juniors to River Plate
Argentinian top club River Plate has made a bid of over 5.5 million euros for Roman Vega, according to Argentine transfer journalist Céas Luis Merlo. It's unclear if this amount will be sufficient for a sale.
Ajax and River Plate are in a transfer battle to sign Román Vega, the left back from Argentinos Juniors. Both clubs have placed a bid of 5.5 million euros. River Plate aims to finalize the deal this week. The decision will ultimately depend on Vega as the bids are equal, but 6 million euros might be needed to finalize the deal. Argentinos Juniors also wants to retain twenty percent of the transfer rights. Bologna was previously interested but withdrew due to the high transfer fee.
River Plate is interested in signing Román Vega to reinforce their left-back position. The transfer is being considered due to River's imminent receipt of 45 million euros from Real Madrid for Franco Mastantuono. River plans to make aggressive moves in the transfer market.
River Plate has expressed interest in acquiring Román Vega. However, Argentinos Juniors intends to sell him to an overseas club, which makes a transfer to River Plate seem improbable. Vega, who had a brief nine-month period at Barcelona B in Spain, returned to Argentinos Juniors and played a vital role in their Apertura 2025 campaign. Despite River Plate's interest, Argentinos Juniors' strategy is to sell Vega internationally, raising doubts about his potential move to River Plate. Born in 2004, Vega significantly contributed to Argentinos Juniors' impressive run in the Apertura 2025, although the team was ultimately eliminated in the quarter-finals by San Lorenzo in a penalty shootout. River Plate has until June 10 to register new players for the Club World Cup. Nevertheless, coach Marcelo Gallardo pointed out that new signings would be aimed at long-term competitions such as the Libertadores, Clausura, and Copa Argentina, instead of focusing solely on the upcoming tournament.
