Nico Schlotterbeck Transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Newcastle United

Team Talk has reported Newcastle United's interest in Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck as a key target for transfer. Newcastle has identified the Borussia Dortmund centre-back as a primary target and is considering a summer move, even though Schlotterbeck is currently dealing with a serious injury. The Magpies have been monitoring the 25-year-old for over a year and are prepared to wait until he regains full fitness. Newcastle is eager to enter the transfer market, with Schlotterbeck being one of their top targets. While Dortmund is open to the idea of selling him, they view him as a significant player and will therefore require a substantial fee. A move to the Premier League reportedly interests Schlotterbeck, and Newcastle aims to persuade him to join, particularly if they secure a spot in the Champions League.

Nico Schlotterbeck had talks with Newcastle before his knee injury. Newcastle and the player held a video meeting to discuss the potential move. Newcastle's interest cooled after the injury. Newcastle previously attempted to sign Schlotterbeck in 2022, but he chose Borussia Dortmund instead.

Nico Schlotterbeck engaged in a videocall with representatives from Newcastle United before his severe injury. Newcastle has shown significant interest, and Schlotterbeck is not entirely opposed to the idea. However, his tendency is to remain with Borussia Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund desires to secure him on a long-term basis, and negotiations are ongoing, though no breakthrough is expected soon. Schlotterbeck is contracted with Borussia Dortmund until 2027, and discussions are expected to become more concrete after he recovers from his injury, expected by October.

Newcastle United has expressed interest in Nico Schlotterbeck. Borussia Dortmund is working on a contract extension offering a doubled salary and the potential of a captaincy. Summer discussions are planned, linked to the club's international qualification.

Newcastle United may also pursue Nico Schlotterbeck if they cannot acquire Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Financial constraints and the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules might make this transfer challenging for Newcastle, but Eddie Howe sees Schlotterbeck as a key addition to their defence.
