Reports from the summer indicated that Newcastle United, along with other Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United, and Everton, had shown an interest in Lucas Herrington. The 19-year-old defender, who holds both Australian and German nationality, was also monitored by Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, and the City Football Group before he joined Hull City from Colorado Rapids in a deal worth a club-record £17 million. Interest in Herrington has persisted since his move, with Barcelona maintaining a strong interest, while German clubs Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have also monitored him this season. Herrington has earned eight caps for Australia and is contracted to Hull City until 2031. It is reported that the deal that took him to the club could increase to between €20M and €22M with add-ons. It was also reported that a €10M bid from Barcelona was rejected months earlier, in June 2026.
