Barcelona has a plan to sign a central defender before January, with Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez included among the options on their shortlist. The player's position at Manchester United is considered to be under threat, and while he has not officially been blacklisted, his form and injury record are concerns. Lisandro Martinez's Estimated Transfer Value is currently €29.3 million, his lowest since leaving Ajax to join United in 2022. It is unlikely Manchester United will recoup the €57m spent on him, and Barcelona is likely to have approximately €30m to spend on a transfer. At present, Martinez is described as arguably the most attractive possibility on Barcelona's shortlist.

The Spanish newspaper AS reports that Barcelona is in competition with Atlético Madrid for Lisandro Martínez, who is an Argentine defender at Manchester United. AS also states that the relationship between Martínez and Manchester United has worsened, reportedly due to statements he made after a Champions League match against Atlético Madrid, where he was critical of the management of the Red Devils at both a team and club level. Barcelona is observing the situation with caution and views the Argentine as a high-quality defender and a national team champion who might be obtainable for a reasonable price. Lisandro Martínez's contract is set to expire on 30 June 2027, and it is also mentioned that he could be acquired via a free transfer at the start of the upcoming summer. It appears that neither the club nor the player are inclined to activate the clause for an automatic one-season extension, and Manchester United could attempt to sell him in January if appropriate offers are made.

Barcelona are reportedly aiming to secure the signing of Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez by 2026. The club is seeking a new central defender after selling Inigo Martinez to Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr, and Hansi Flick has identified the Argentine international as a priority target. Despite Martinez's recurring fitness issues, including a current ACL injury, Barcelona are optimistic that these setbacks might reduce Manchester United's asking price. This interest has been reported by the Spanish publication Fichajes. Barcelona are keen to finalize a deal next year as they search for a new left-footed centre-back. With two years left on his current contract at Manchester United, Martinez is considered a more affordable option compared to Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni, whose transfer value is estimated at €83 million. The Blaugrana regard Martinez as an essential transfer target, particularly due to his ability to initiate attacks from the back, a quality that Hansi Flick greatly appreciates.
