Newport County have been linked with 24-year-old Cardiff City striker Kion Etete. It is increasingly likely he will spend another season away from the club, although there has been no contact between the clubs over a move at this stage. It is not known if new Exiles boss Hayden Mullins will pursue the matter further. The League Two side Colchester United are the most recent club to register an interest, though discussions have not progressed beyond that point. Port Vale also explored signing Etete this summer, while Tranmere Rovers' assistant boss Dean Whitehead is understood to be an admirer, but rumours that the striker was on trial there were not true. A permanent transfer is complicated by Etete's Championship-level wages. Cardiff's preferred outcome is another loan to allow the player to rebuild his value. An English and Nigerian national, Etete joined Cardiff in August 2022 and is under contract until May 2027. His current market value is €750k, according to Transfermarkt.
