Kees Smit Transfer from AZ to Liverpool

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Liverpool could sign Kees Smit, although a deal in January is considered to be improbable. Liverpool are reportedly looking at the 19-year-old, alongside many other top European clubs. Smit is described as a key player for his AZ team and one of the best young Dutch players to have emerged in recent years. O'Rourke stated he would be very surprised if anything happens in January, as it is not an easy deal to complete. He noted that Smit is under contract at AZ until 2028 and the club is not expected to want to lose such a key player mid-season. O'Rourke does not see a move happening in the January window, but suggested AZ might be more open to selling in the summer for a large fee.

Dutch reports indicate that a 'serious bid' for Smit is expected from Liverpool in January. The Daily Briefing quotes a source who said that everyone at AZ is aware that the player is likely to attract offers and that the club is now open to letting him go for the right price next summer. The source added that the figure they are hearing is £25m (€28.5m) and that they would not be surprised if a deal is agreed in January to then be completed in the summer. Furthermore, Dutch transfer expert Lars Leeftink believes that AZ will find it difficult to refuse a deal, but he questions whether a move to Manchester United or Liverpool is the best decision for a player who is still developing.

According to Dutch outlet Soccer News, Arne Slot is seeking a reunion with AZ player Kees Smit, and Liverpool is considering a bid in January. The report also states that Smit is considering a potential move to Anfield and that any agreement would need to surpass AZ’s current transfer record of €25m from the sale of Tijjani Reijnders. Sky Sports confirms the 19-year-old can leave for a fee exceeding that €25m amount. Smit’s Estimated Transfer Value is €10.8m, an increase from €2.5m in May.

Team Talk reports that Liverpool are predicted to make a significant move for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, who is also a target for Real Madrid and Newcastle. Arne Slot is familiar with the 19-year-old from his time as a coach at AZ, which may give Liverpool an advantage in the competition to sign the player.

Liverpool is showing interest in acquiring Kees Smit. Nevertheless, Smit has suggested that he might remain at AZ, as he values his playing time and development. Despite Liverpool's interest, sources close to the AZ Alkmaar star have reported that he considers playing for Real Madrid to be a dream opportunity. Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly very interested in Smit, who was the joint top scorer and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Although Smit is aware of the interest from major clubs and the potential transfer fee being discussed, he stresses the importance of playing regularly and enhancing his abilities, indicating he might continue at AZ.
