Dutch central midfielder Joey Veerman, 27, has indicated he is ready for a new challenge and stated a preference for a move to Spain or Italy this summer. This follows a transfer to Brentford that did not happen a year ago and his later rejection of a move to Fenerbahçe. PSV will allow the midfielder to leave for a fee of 20 million euros. Atalanta is suggested as a potential destination, where Maurizio Sarri has been appointed as the new coach. The club, which finished seventh in Serie A last season and faces a qualifying round for the Conference League, has funds to spend after selling Marco Palestra to Chelsea for 58 million euros. A move to the Bergamo club could result in Veerman forming a midfield partnership with his compatriot Marten de Roon. Veerman, who has 16 caps for the Netherlands, is under contract with PSV until June 2028 and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €25 million. The failed move to Brentford in the summer of 2025 reportedly involved multiple rejected bids, one at €27 million and another approaching €30 million.
