It is reported that Ajax and PSV are targeting Gustavo Varela, a 21-year-old forward who is impressing for Monza in Serie A this season. Both of the top Dutch clubs have sent scouts to Italy to watch the Portuguese and Cape Verdean player play. Varela's performances have led to interest from other European clubs. Napoli is said to be monitoring him closely. Additionally, it is reported that technical director Giovanni Manna has had Varela's name on a list for some time. Benfica, where Varela previously played in the youth system, is also one of the interested parties. Varela joined Monza in July 2026 from Benfica's B team for a fee that was reported to be between €2.5 million and €3.5 million. His current contract runs until June 2030. The forward has 7 caps and 4 goals for Portugal's U21 team and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €5.0m. In October 2026, multiple reports from Italian media valued the player at approximately €15 million.
