According to ESPN Argentina, River Plate, Franco Mastantuono's former club, wants to bring him back. The Argentine club has already initiated first contacts and is waiting to know the position of Real Madrid regarding a loan.

Franco Mastantuono was bought for 45 million euros by Real Madrid last summer and had a disappointing first season in Spain. River Plate, the club where Mastantuono was trained, is considering requesting a loan for the player, according to ESPN. The positions of Real Madrid and Mastantuono regarding this potential move are not yet known. Mastantuono is absent from the Argentina national team list for the 2026 World Cup.

Franco Mastantuono, who is tied to Real Madrid, could return to his original club River Plate to get more playing time after a difficult season. Coach Eduardo Coudet said they would welcome him.

According to Defensa Central, Franco Mastantuono wants to stay at Real Madrid but is reluctantly considering a return to River Plate. The Argentina international joined Real Madrid in August 2025 from River Plate for a fee reported to be between €60 million and €63.2 million, and his contract is valid until 2031. Several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, have been linked with him, with reports from February 2026 suggesting Tottenham was prepared to offer approximately €50 million.
