Derek Cornelius Transfer from Olympique Marseille to Rangers
Derek Cornelius’s loan move to Ibrox includes a buy option, but it is not yet known whether it will be triggered. According to Joshua Barrie, Cornelius is not expected to remain at the Gers beyond this season. The Scottish journalist does not think the Light Blues will exercise the option to make the Canada international’s deal at Ibrox permanent. Speaking on The Rangers Review on 19 January, Barrie said he believes Cornelius, 28, is expected back in February. Barrie stated that he does not think that, at this moment, Rangers will be exercising that option on him, especially after his injury, and added that he would be surprised. Danny Rohl is not expecting Cornelius back for another few weeks after the 28-year-old sustained an injury in November.
Derek Cornelius is set to leave Olympique de Marseille for Glasgow Rangers on loan with an option to buy. He is expected in Glasgow on Monday to undergo a medical and sign his contract with the Scottish club.
Rangers are reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Derek Cornelius from Marseille. The Canadian international, who is 27 years old and plays as a centre-back, would add experience to Russell Martin's defensive lineup. Despite having three years remaining on his contract with Marseille, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested that Cornelius is close to completing a move to Ibrox, with a medical examination planned in Paris. Cornelius, who has earned 35 caps for Canada, previously played for Malmo and Vancouver Whitecaps. He was an unused substitute in the league opener against Rennes and made a brief appearance in the final minute of Marseille's win over Paris FC. Last season, he participated in 21 Ligue 1 matches and two French Cup games. His transfer to Rangers indicates a new beginning at the Light Blues after only a year with Marseille, with the deal expected to be completed before Monday's deadline.
