Daizen Maeda Transfer from Celtic to Leeds United
Daizen Maeda is looking to leave Celtic in January amid interest from Premier League sides. According to TEAMtalk, the 28-year-old grew frustrated after Celtic turned down a number of approaches from several Premier League clubs in the summer. Maeda is said to have felt ‘sidelined’ in contract talks, with his current deal set to expire in 2027, and was ‘overlooked’ for a significant move that could have improved his chances of making Japan’s 2026 World Cup squad. An unnamed source stated that Maeda has given everything for Celtic but needs a new challenge, adding that the rejection was painful for him and he has made it clear that a transfer must happen in January. Celtic are understood to be ‘reluctantly open’ to Maeda’s departure for the right price. The price is believed to be close to his ETV of €13.6 million. Leeds are thought to be interested in signing Maeda.
Leeds United, along with other clubs, have shown interest in Daizen Maeda. The player is available for a transfer fee of £25m. Despite the interest, Maeda has expressed happiness at Celtic and is not pushing for a move.
