There had been hope that Carl Rushworth would sign permanently for Swansea City after a successful loan, but Coventry City are now planning a £20 million move for the 24-year-old English goalkeeper. Rushworth had previously said he loved his time in south Wales and would have conversations with his parent club Brighton about a potential return if the opportunity arose. After a similarly impactful loan spell with the Sky Blues, they are keen on a permanent deal. The Seagulls' £20 million valuation would represent a record transfer for the Midlands club. According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Coventry placed a formal bid on Saturday and are awaiting a response from Brighton. Jacobs also noted that Rushworth is open to signing permanently for Coventry but is of interest to multiple Premier League clubs. Rushworth's agent, Stephen Hunt, stated on the 1904 Club podcast that his main priority is ensuring his client plays first-team football and does not sit on the bench. Rushworth joined Brighton in July 2023 and has a contract with the club until 2027. He made 46 appearances in the Championship during the 2025/2026 season, has one cap for the England U21 team, and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €16.00m.
