Charlton Athletic are expected to fail in their attempt to sign Swiss left-back Junior Ligue, who is set to join Italian side Venezia. Charlton have been unable to secure the signing of the 20-year-old despite making two offers to bring him to the club this month. The London club was believed to be the most likely to sign him, but the Serie B club intervened with a superior offer. Charlton were interested in a loan with an option to buy. Charlton failed to sign Ligue from Zurich this January after a permanent deal was agreed with Venezia. Nathan Jones has been looking to strengthen his defensive options this January, and the Championship side were considered the most likely to sign Ligue. A Switzerland U21 international, Ligue joined Zurich in January 2023 and has a contract until June 2030. Reports from January 2026 state that Venezia reached an agreement with Zürich for a transfer fee of €2.5 million. His current Transfermarkt market value is €3.50m.
