During the summer transfer window, it was rumored that Mainz was among several clubs interested in Assad Al-Hamlawi, a 25-year-old Palestinian-Swedish centre-forward. Other interested clubs included Club Brugge, AEK Athens, Legia Warsaw, and Al Ahly Cairo. Separately, Pyramids of Egypt and Russia's Rubin Kazan held negotiations to sign the Universitatea Craiova player, but an agreement was not reached. Al-Hamlawi has been capped three times for Palestine. He joined his current club in July 2025 and is under contract until June 30, 2028.
