Reports within football circles suggested that FC Basel also submitted a bid for Sanches to Lausanne, which was subsequently rejected. However, Basel's sport director, Daniel Stucki, clarified the situation, stating that while the playmaker was on their radar, the club was not actively trying to sign him. Stucki noted that Sanches's price was considered too high, and Basel was not willing to match the investment Young Boys made in a player recovering from a torn cruciate ligament. He also pointed out that Basel already has Switzerland's best number 10 in Xherdan Shaqiri. In a press release from Young Boys, Sanches claimed no other team was a possibility for him, prompting Stucki to question what the player might have said if Basel had made a competing offer for his signature.
