Alexander Schwolow's time at Hearts has concluded, and he is set to return to Germany to join Mainz.

Mainz manager Urs Fischer explained that Robin will start as their goalkeeper and that this was discussed with Alex. Fischer added that nobody has any guarantees and that it is ultimately determined by performances. The manager said they are pleased to sign Schwolow, having worked with him at Union Berlin where he was impeccable. Fischer mentioned that many names were considered, but they ultimately had a very good feeling about Alex. He described Schwolow as a very pleasant, sensible character who is from the region and will not need any time to adapt.

Hearts confirmed that German keeper Alexander Schwolow, 34, is returning to his home country to join Bundesliga club Mainz. Schwolow will remain with the capital club until August 1, which will make him available for the Champions League second round qualifier against Sturm Graz.
