Santiago Ascacibar Transfer from Estudiantes to River Plate

Juan Sebastián Verón, president of Estudiantes, stated in an interview with Cielosports that he sees Santiago Ascacíbar more for Estudiantes than for River or Boca. Verón added that the player will decide where he wants to go if he leaves, and that a potential move has to satisfy both the player and the club. He explained that Estudiantes can make an effort but it has a limit, and said that they made a very big effort, as did Ascacíbar. Verón also stated that it seems normal for the effort for his departure to be shared. Verón previously declared that they want to retain him but there is an economic issue and that, at a certain point, they will not be able to compete, at which time the player will decide. He said Estudiantes cannot compete economically with River and Boca. It is also reported that River is following every movement closely and sees adding Ascacíbar as a priority.

According to TYC, River Plate will pursue Santiago Ascacíbar after Estudiantes plays the Trofeo de Campeones against Platense. A first meeting between the club and the player's representatives has already taken place to gauge interest, and a formal contact with Estudiantes is expected next week. River Plate plans a new meeting with Ascacíbar's representatives followed by a concrete offer to Estudiantes. In this case, River Plate may attempt a direct acquisition of part of Ascacíbar's transfer rights rather than a loan with a purchase option or obligation. After winning the title with Estudiantes, Ascacíbar said that he is still there, has one more final and will then think about the future, adding that his focus is there until the end of the year. Ascacíbar has one year left on his contract with Estudiantes. The main obstacle for River Plate, besides Estudiantes' demands, could be interest from a European club.

According to TYC, River Plate has an interest in signing Santiago Ascacíbar and will make an attempt to do so after the championship is over. Ascacíbar could win the championship with Estudiantes this weekend.

TYC reports on 28-year-old Argentine defensive midfielder Santiago Ascacibar's subtle preference for River Plate over Boca Juniors. Santiago Ascacibar expressed a subtle preference for River Plate over Boca Juniors, mentioning his familiarity with Enzo Pérez at River, which would help him adapt better. However, no formal move materialized, and Ascacibar maintained his loyalty to Estudiantes, showing no intention to move. His contract with Estudiantes is set to expire on December 31, 2026, and Transfermarkt currently estimates his market value at €7.00m.
