The player, a Swiss international with 67 caps and 13 goals, had hoped for an offer from a major league. However, Olympiacos, described as the Greek champions, is the only club to have made a firm approach. Vargas has reached a favorable personal agreement with Olympiacos that would nearly double his salary, and an agreement between the clubs is the only remaining item. Sevilla rejected an initial offer of around €12 million but are confident the final fee could reach €15 million, potentially rising to €20 million with add-ons. Vargas's current contract runs until 2029; he joined Sevilla in January 2025 from FC Augsburg for a fee of €2.5 million. A bid of €9.5-10 million from Bournemouth was also reportedly rejected in August 2026.
