Pedro Gonçalves is leaving Sporting for Fiorentina in a move that is considered surprising, after having been linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks. The forward will move to Italy to join the Viola. The deal is a loan with an obligatory buy clause in a total package worth €25 million, which consists of a €2.5 million loan fee and a €22.5 million purchase option that is triggered if certain requirements are met. Gonçalves was not part of coach Rui Borges' plans for the current season, and the manager had previously commented that the player was seeking new challenges. With the transfer window closing and the move to Saudi Arabia not happening, Sporting's management had become concerned about the situation before a solution was reached with Fiorentina, a team coached by Fabio Grosso.
