Malcom Edjouma was part of a transfer deal proposed by FCSB's owner, Gigi Becali, to Hermannstadt. The deal was part of a larger plan involving Ianis Stoica's return to FCSB to be used in a transaction with Dinamo for Dennis Politic. Hermannstadt's coach, Marius Măldărășanu, agreed to the transfer, although he was skeptical about Edjouma's willingness to join. Ultimately, the negotiations failed, and Edjouma remained at FCSB but was left out of the squad.

Rumors circulated that Gigi Becali was considering offering Edjouma as a 'bargaining chip' to acquire Ianis Stoica from Hermannstadt. The Sibiu club was agreeable to this proposal, but Edjouma was not in favor of the idea. Edjouma, a 28-year-old French midfielder, had a history of playing for FC Botoșani before moving to FCSB. Despite interest from both Hermannstadt and his former club FC Botoșani, Edjouma turned down their offers. Valeriu Iftime from FC Botoșani mentioned that he had spoken directly with Edjouma and conveyed a strong interest in bringing him back, but noted the player's lack of interest. During the 2023-2024 season, Edjouma was loaned to Bari in Serie B, although the Italian club eventually opted not to pursue a permanent transfer.
