Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the sale of Makhtar Gueye, who has joined the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for an undisclosed fee. The striker departs Ewood Park after 18 months at the club. Gueye has not featured for Rovers since December 13 and had been left out of the last six matchday squads. It is believed that Blackburn Rovers have recouped the approximately £1 million paid for him.

Makhtar Gueye, a 28-year-old Senegalese striker for Blackburn Rovers, is expected to complete a permanent transfer to Shanghai Shenhua. It is reported that Blackburn and the Chinese club have agreed on the terms of the deal following a week of negotiations. The transfer follows a period where Gueye was selected less often than academy prospects at Rovers, amid criticism from manager Valerien Ismael regarding his physical output. The move to Asia is expected to be finalised, and the funds from the sale and the wage budget made available are intended to go towards signing a replacement. Gueye joined Blackburn in July 2024 and has made 16 appearances in the Championship this season. His contract with the club was scheduled to expire in June 2027, and his market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €2.50m.
