Bolton Wanderers confirmed that Lewis Temple has joined Oldham Athletic on a loan for the season. The young defender will be at Boundary Park for the 2026/27 campaign, where he will continue his development with regular first-team football in Sky Bet League Two.

Oldham Athletic have agreed a season-long loan deal with Bolton Wanderers for defender Lewis Temple. Lewis Temple stated that the loan was something they had been speaking about for the last few weeks and that he is delighted. Latics boss Micky Mellon said Temple had been a player they were aware of for a while and highlighted his comfort on the ball and his experience in Ireland as positives.

It is reported that Irish centre-back Lewis Temple, 21, is a target for several League Two clubs, including Oldham Athletic. Temple, who was signed from League of Ireland side Shelbourne last season, has impressed during the summer while training with Steven Schumacher’s first team. His club has received a number of loan offers and is currently deciding where to send him for the duration of the transfer window. Temple has been capped five times for the Republic of Ireland at U19 level and his contract expires on June 30, 2028. In the 2025/2026 season, he made 28 appearances in the League of Ireland First Division, contributing one goal and one assist, and also played in 13 Premier Division matches.
