Voetbalnieuws.be reports on the potential transfer of De Bruyne to an MLS club, with Chicago Fire being mentioned again. In 2025, De Bruyne spoke with American clubs and Chicago Fire made a concrete proposal. De Bruyne ultimately chose Napoli because he still wanted to play at the highest European level. Clubs can already negotiate now and prepare an agreement. An MLS club offering a substantial transfer fee and an attractive contract in January would give Napoli the last opportunity to still earn money from De Bruyne. MLS has a system that allows clubs to pay big names outside the regular salary cap, enabling a club to give De Bruyne a multimillion-dollar contract without exhausting its entire player budget. A big offer could quickly change De Bruyne’s future plan.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Chicago Fire are considered to be in an advanced stage of their pursuit of Kevin De Bruyne.

There are ongoing rumors from the United States and MLS concerning Kevin De Bruyne's future, with reported interest from Chicago and New York City. However, it is also stated that neither the 34-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder nor his club want to separate. De Bruyne's contract with Napoli runs until June 2027 and his future will depend heavily on the coach.
