It is reported that Atlanta United is interested in Romelu Lukaku, a 33-year-old Belgian striker. Lukaku has mostly been a substitute at Fenerbahçe and has received criticism in the Turkish press. The player has decided he wants to leave in January to find a club that offers more playing time and a healthy, ambitious sporting project. New York City, AS Monaco, and Everton are other clubs said to be monitoring the situation. Everton is considered a strong contender to sign him. The primary issue for any interested team is Lukaku's substantial salary in Turkey, which he would need to lower for a transfer to occur. Lukaku has 135 caps and 94 goals for Belgium. He joined Fenerbahçe from Napoli in August 2026 for a base fee of €6 million, and his contract is valid until June 2027. Before his move to Fenerbahçe, it was reported that Atlanta United was willing to offer between €5 million and €7 million for the player. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €6.00m.
