Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, aged 33, has decided he wants to leave Fenerbahçe in January. This decision follows a period in which he was mostly a substitute and was criticized by the Turkish press. The striker is seeking a club that has a healthy and ambitious sporting project and where he can get more playing time. New York City and Atlanta United from the MLS are reportedly interested in him. AS Monaco is also observing the situation. Everton is considered a significant candidate for his transfer because Lukaku wants to return to the Premier League. The main impediment for any interested club is Lukaku's high salary in Turkey; a transfer would require him to accept a reduction in his salary. Lukaku has 135 caps and 94 goals for Belgium. He joined the Turkish club in August 2026 with a contract that ends in June 2027. His move to Fenerbahçe from Napoli was for a reported fee of €6 million, and Transfermarkt lists his current market value at €6.00m.
