After negotiations with Argentinos Juniors for Francisco Álvarez stalled, River Plate has focused on Juan Giménez, an 18-year-old youth player from Rosario Central. River, which received a 10-day extension to sign a center back following an injury to Giorgio Costantini, has to date only made informal inquiries about Giménez. The club is prepared to speed up discussions if it gets approval from Rosario to open formal negotiations. Giménez had previously been near a transfer to Borussia Dortmund, and despite a significant knee injury that kept him out of play for a year, River reportedly considers him a valuable prospect for the future. The Argentine defender joined Rosario Central in July 2024 and has a contract until the end of 2027. The U20 international, who has 11 caps for his country, has made one league appearance in the 2025/2026 season. His current market value is €2.00m, according to Transfermarkt.
