John McGinn Transfer from Aston Villa to Celtic
John McGinn, speaking via the Birmingham Mail, has addressed the summer transfer speculation, stating he had no real thoughts about leaving Aston Villa. He said it boosted his confidence that teams were interested, and acknowledged that most clubs were aware Villa had to be in a position to sell players. However, McGinn explained that when his situation arose, the club made it clear from the very beginning that he was not for sale and was important. He specified that the manager, Damian, Nassef, and Wes were all clear that they wanted him to remain and felt he had much more to give. McGinn added that he was told immediately, that there was no uncertainty, and he trusted what they said.
According to The Telegraph, John McGinn is nearing the signing of a new contract at Villa Park, with talks at an advanced stage and a full agreement anticipated to be reached soon. McGinn has been frequently associated with a move to Celtic Park, and former Bhoys defender Charlie Mulgrew recently suggested he would join Brendan Rodgers’ side. Football Insider has stated that while McGinn could move back to Scotland in the future, a deal is highly improbable to take place next summer.
According to Pete O’Rourke, via Football Insider, a move for Scottish midfielder John McGinn to Celtic is not expected to happen in the near future, and O'Rourke also suggested that a transfer could occur in the future. There are strong links between the 31-year-old, who is a boyhood Celtic fan, and the club. O'Rourke noted that the player's grandfather was once chairman. In 2018, McGinn was close to joining Celtic from Hibernian before the deal stalled and Aston Villa signed him. O'Rourke believes McGinn is not currently considering a move back to Scotland, but he suggested it is a transfer that might appeal to him later. The speculation is linked to Aston Villa's precarious PSR situation, which may necessitate player sales. The Scottish international's contract with Aston Villa runs until 2027. His market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €16m. Everton and Newcastle United have also been linked with the midfielder.
