Coventry City could attempt to sign Sheffield United's 28-year-old Dutch-Brazilian player Gustavo Hamer in the summer, as they look to sign players capable of keeping them in the Premier League. According to former scout Mick Brown, Coventry are expected to attempt to sign Hamer. Mick Brown stated that Coventry would be looking at the best players in the Championship who might be able to step up to the Premier League with them. He said Hamer is among them and has shown that over a number of years. Brown also stated that they still rate him very highly at Coventry and the fans loved him when he was there, so a return would make sense for both parties. He expects it is something both parties will be interested in doing if it is possible, because Hamer has the quality at his best to make them a better team. The midfielder, who earns £30k-a-week, is expected to leave Sheffield United in the summer after three seasons at Bramall Lane, during which he scored 21 goals and provided 28 assists in 120 appearances. Hamer, who has been capped three times by the Netherlands at U20 level, is under contract until June 2027 and, according to Transfermarkt, has a current market value of €16.00m. Several other clubs, including Everton and Trabzonspor, have also been linked with the player. Reported valuations have varied; some reports in early 2026 suggested a fee as low as £6 million, while an April 2026 report mentioned a potential price of £15-£20 million.
